PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce processing time required for FBG manufacturing and to simplify routing of an optical fiber at the time of FBG manufacturing by achieving an FBG growth control method which dispenses with a process of fusion splicing an optical fiber to a measuring light source and an optical spectrum analyzer. SOLUTION: An optical fiber having a stripped part formed by removing a part of the coating is held by clamps at both ends, with the stripped part expanded between the clamps. Then, the stripped part is irradiated with FBG writing laser through a phase mask, with the irradiating intensity of the FBG writing laser added up and measured upto a prescribed value. When the total intensity value reaching the prescribed value, the irradiation of the FBG writing laser comes to an end, thereby FBG growth is controlled in the stripped part in this method.
