A safety seat for a vehicle has adjustable side supports (3) to the squab operated by servo drives linked to a collision sensing system which moves the side supports into a protective position especially for side impact support. The collision sensing system includes proximity sensors. The side supports have a stable end setting and at least one intermediate stable position which is used as the support position if the side supports have not reached the stable end position at the moment of impact. The stable end position can be dependent on the physical size and weight of the seat occupant. |
