A plied yarn to be used in making fur imitations comprises a yarn of staple fibres consisting of non-shrinkable fibres and shrinkable fibres, plied with a continuous filament yarn of shrinkable material, the plied yarn having a denier of not more than 600. In examples, the filament yarn comprises twenty, 5 denier filaments of polyvinyl chloride, and the staple fibre yarn comprises 3 denier shrinkable polyvinyl chloride fibres, and 15 and/or 25 denier non-shrinkable acrylic fibres. An imitation fur fabric is made by weaving a pile fabric using the plied yarn as the pile, cutting the tufts, straightening the tufts using metal spikes and removing any fibres not held, shrinking the shrinkable fibres by means of heat, and combing or brushing the fabric. |
