1,199,221. Scattering material from aircraft. ENTWICKLUNGSRING SUD G.m.b.H. 17 Jan., 1968 [27 Feb., 1967; 24 May, 1967], No. 2622/68. Heading A1D. [Also in Division F3-4] Means for discharging bulk material from an aircraft comprises a number of tubes carried beneath the aircraft, the tubes containing the material and each tube receiving air under pressure at one end so that the material is discharged from the other end. As shown in Fig. 1, a pod 20 extending along the underside of an aircraft 10 receives a number of tubes 30 containing the bulk material 31, the front end of each tube being connected by a pipe 34 to a compressed air source 35 derived from a compressor 12 of the jet propulsion unit 11. The source 35 is controlled by a regulator (not shown). To ensure that the material 31 is deflected downwardly from the aircraft, a hollow flap 50 pivoted at 53 is moved to the upper position shown in Fig. 6 and compressed air from the compressor 12 is supplied to the flap interior through a regulator 70 and pipe 60, this air issuing through flap nozzles 54. In a modification (Fig. 5, not shown) the compressed air for the tubes 30 is derived from the movement of the aircraft and to this end the front ends of the tubes are open to the airstream. In other modifications (Fig. 10- 12, not shown) the tubes extend transversely of the aircraft and discharge some to one side and others to the other side of the aircraft. |
