<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for producing syrup, enabling unused sulfur components to be utilized and thermal energy to be utilized as well in the system. <P>SOLUTION: The system comprises a grinder 12 for grinding a biomass feedstock 11, a saccharifier 14 for saccharifying both cellulose and hemicellulose in the resultant ground product 13 with dilute sulfuric acid, a solid/liquid separator 18 for separating lignin-containing solids 17 from syrup and a liquid content 16 such as sulfuric acid in the resultant saccharified liquid 15, a neutralization sold/liquid separator 19 for neutralizing the sulfuric acid in the liquid fraction 16 and separating the syrup 20, a boiler 24 for combusting the solids 17 separated by the separator 19, and desulfurizer 25 for removing SOx content in an exhaust gas G from the boiler 24. This system functions to feed the saccharifier 14 with dilute sulfuric acid adjusted to a specified concentration by mixing sulfuric acid obtained by the desulfurizer 25 and steam from the boiler 24. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
