1,270,457. Lamps. DEFENCE, SECRETARY OF STATE FOR. 10 June, 1970 [24 June, 1969], No. 31850/69. Heading F4R. [Also in Divisions A4 and H2] A walking stick 1 capable of emitting light comprises a manually operable generator connected to a lamp 8. The generator may comprise individual piezo-electric cells 4 with interposed wire gauzes 5 and surmounted by a weight 9, all joined by epoxy resin and housed in a hollow section 10 of the stick 1 surrounded by silicone rubber. The weight 9 may alternatively be loosely arranged in the stick to impact on the cells 4. The cells 4 are a sintered mixture of lead zirconate and lead titanate with metallized flat surfaces, and are connected in parallel with each other and in series with the lamp 8 which may be a gas discharge lamp or a fluorescent tube. A spark gap may be provided in the circuit when a gas discharge lamp is used to aid the build up of voltage. The lamp 8 is housed in a recess 11 in a translucent portion 2 of the stick 1. The generator responds to impact of the stick on the ground but may alternatively be arranged to respond to bending of the stick or may be operated by a cam lever. The generator may alternatively be electromagnetic and operated, e.g. by a rack-and-pinion and a lever or a plunger protruding through a ferrule of the stick. With an electromagnetic generator an ordinary incandescent lamp may be employed.
|
