SAFETY Y-PORT ADAPTOR AND MEDICAL CATHETER ASSEMBLY INCLUDING THE SAME

A medical catheter assembly (11) including a safety Y-port adaptor (17). In one embodiment, the medical catheter assembly (11) is a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) assembly (11) and includes a PEG tube (13), the PEG tube (13) having a proximal end (27), a distal end (25) and a longitudinal conduit. An internal bolster (14) is disposed at the distal end (25) of the PEG tube (13). The safety Y-port adaptor (17) includes a tubular first arm (41), a tubular second arm (43) and a tubular third arm (45), each of the second and third arms (43, 45) being in fluid communication with the first arm (41). The first arm (41) is coupled to the proximal end (27) of the PEG tube (13) and is in fluid communication therewith. A first anti-reflux valve (65) is disposed within the second arm (43), and a second anti-reflux valve (67) is disposed within the third arm (45). The anti-reflux valves (65, 67) may be positioned within their respective arms (43, 45) so that each may be biased open by the insertion of a dispensing tip into the arm (43, 45).
