The method involves determining an angle position of a crankshaft (25) of an internal combustion engine (23), after stopping the engine, where the engine is stopped in the angle position. A reversal of rotation direction is incorporated by breakdown of a development of pressure in a cylinder (24) of the crankshaft. Re-start of the engine is effected based on the determined angle position. An independent claim is also included for an engine control unit of an internal combustion engine.
