PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a progressive conversion evaluating method, capable of evaluating the conversion state in the case of progressive conversion for converting video signal of an interlace display system into video signal of the progressive display system. SOLUTION: The progressive conversion evaluating method generates a video signal of the interlace display system for displaying one scanning line in an odd numbered or an even numbered field or displaying horizontal direction lines, comprising each one scanning line adjacent to each other in the case of the display in the odd numbered and even numbered fields, allows a progressive conversion means that is an evaluation object to apply progressive conversion to the video signal into a video signal of the progressive display system, allows a display means, capable of displaying the video signal in the progressive display system to display the video signal subjected to progressive conversion, and detects the display state of horizontal direction lines in the video signal of the progressive display system displayed on the display means so as to evaluate the progressive conversion means.
