PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an electrophotographic photoreceptor by which quality control for image defects in an a-Si photoreceptor can be accurately carried out by an easy method and spheric projections inducing image defects during continuous use in a commercial scene can be reliably detected. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing an electrophotographic photoreceptor having at least an amorphous silicon-based photoconductor layer formed on a support includes an inspection step to evaluate an image defect of the photoreceptor. The inspection step is carried out in an environment at humidity higher than a humidity range in a critical region where the number of image defects increases depending on humidity, based on the humidity dependence of the number of image defects preliminarily evaluated by forming images while varying the humidity environment.
