The invention relates to a radial piston pump (1) for generating high fuel pressure in fuel injection systems of internal combustion engines, especially in a common rail injection system. Said radial piston pump (1) comprises a drive shaft (4) that is mounted within a pump housing (2) and is provided with an eccentric section (6) on which a roller (8) is mounted, and preferably several pistons (16). Said pistons (16) are disposed in one respective cylinder (14) so as to extend in a radial direction relative to the drive shaft (4). A piston base plate (18) that contacts the circumferential surface (10, 12) of the roller (8) is arranged at the end of each piston (16), which faces the roller (8). According to the invention, at least one portion of the roller (8), particularly at least part of the circumferential surface (10, 12) of the roller (8), is made of a wear-resistant material, i.e. hard metal, a precision casting material, cast carbide material, sintered tool steel, or nitrided steel.
