PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a luminescent material that contributes to high luminous efficiency, low drive voltage, excellent heat resistance, long duration of life, etc., of element, especially excellent blue color development in an organic electroluminescent element and an organic electroluminescent element using the luminescent material. SOLUTION: The new luminescent material comprises anthracene as a basic skeleton as shown formula (1) (R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>4</SP>are each independently hydrogen, a 1-24C alkyl or a 1-24C alkoxy; A<SP>1</SP>-A<SP>5</SP>are each independently hydrogen, a 1-24C alkyl or a 3-24C cycloalkyl; B<SP>1</SP>and B<SP>2</SP>are each independently hydrogen, a 6-24C aryl, a 1-24C alkyl or a 3-24C cycloalkyl; X<SP>1</SP>-X<SP>5</SP>are each independently hydrogen, a 1-24C alkyl or a 3-24C cycloalkyl) and has an asymmetric structure.
