The seal has a butt joint between components e.g. surface units (1, 1`), which have edge surfaces in the area of the butt joint. The edge surfaces are coated on one side with a liquid material (2) in an initial state. The liquid material swells during thermal effect and seals a groove opposite to smoke and flame passages. The groove is formed diagonally to upper surface of the components by a sloped or curved form of the edge surfaces.
