The titanium beta alloy wire, which is mechanically unstable for use in the field of orthodontics, has a structure essentially composed of recrystallized grains with an average size greater than 20 microns, providing the wire with an apparent modulus of elasticity less than 25 GPa, a recoverable deformation greater than 3 %, and a ductility of less than 7 %. The wire is obtained from a work-hardened titanium beta alloy wire while subjecting the wire to a purely thermomechanical treatment for causing an increase in the size of the grains, subsequently subjecting the wire to an adapted plastic predeformation for enabling a residual deformation greater than 5 % to subsist while permitting the conservation of a ductility reserve ranging from 5 to 10 % before the breaking point. |
