Invention relates to the automation of rail transport. In the method of checking the free state of rail line a signal is delivered into the rail line and received from it by receiver-transmitter. In the channel of the analysis of amplitude the average value of its surrounding part at the input of reception part of the receiver-transmitter is determined. In the channel of analysis of phase the evaluation of the signal phase is made, on the basis of which final statistics are determined in the form of cumulative sums, which are compared with threshold values, in case of exceeding by both cumulative sums the threshold values a signal of the free state of rail line is formed. Otherwise the signal of occupied state is generated. At start of receiver-transmitter the preliminary determination of average values of the surrounding of signal in normal and shunt modes is produced, and the evaluation of the phase of signal too, which use as set values at determination of cumulative sums. Technical result consists in the accuracy of checking.
