<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-soluble coloring matter used as a colorant for a water-based ink for ink jet printing. <P>SOLUTION: A water-soluble quinacridone coloring matter represented by formula (1) has a plurality of amide groups and sulfonic acid groups, so that the solubility is considerably improved and the capability to be adsorbed of the color material is enhanced. As a result, the coloring matter is adsorbed on the surface of paper to obtain high color development in ink jet printing.
