PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a retrieval request origin from being kept waiting for retrieval processing in a distributed retrieval system. SOLUTION: A waiting time for the retrieval processing is set, the set waiting time and a retrieval request are transmitted to other device, and timeout information transmitted from the device which received the transmitted waiting time and the retrieval request is received when the device cannot process the retrieval based on the retrieval request within the waiting time.
