The electrical and/or optical component, with at least one functional electrical and/or optical element (2) as a sensor, is within a gas- and vapor-tight shrouding (3) with connection leads (4). The sensor is inserted into the shrouding with the connecting leads projecting freely, and a thermoplastic sealing material (5) is inserted into the shrouding. The assembly is heated to bond the sealing material against the inner surface of the shrouding and surround the connection leads in a gas- and vapor-tight sealing. The sealing material is formed at least partially by a conductive mantle (6).
