In order to reduce the harmful effects of a cathode-ray tube implosion, a tube of the type having a cylindrical envelope portion in the vicinity of the face-cone junction, has a length of tape secured around its envelope with adhesive to form a band which overlaps the cylindrical portion on either side and has a width of at least two inches. One turn of wide tape or a number of turns of narrower tape may be used. The tape may comprise any flexible fabric, plastic or other material and is preferably self-adhesive. A cathode-ray tube support band may engage over the band of tape but is of narrower width. |
