PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To presume a more appropriate change period, by presuming accurate wear quantity according to a mode in a recording and reproducing device having several kinds of modes for the rotational speed of a cylinder. SOLUTION: Wear quantity of a head is presumed more accurately by switching a coefficient with which counting of rotation time is performed according to the recording and reproducing modes, in which the rotational speed of the cylinder is different.
