A WIG-welding unit has a cooling unit (1) with housing (2), and a supporting wall facing the placement surface of the WIG-welding unit. The cooling unit (1) and welding appliance are joined to form a portable unit and in which the housing of the cooling unit has a width of 150-200 mm and a height of 80-100 mm, so that the cooling unit (1) overlaps the welding appliance parallel to the seating surface by more than 10 per cent. An independent claim is included for a cooling unit.
