The elastic luggage strap (1) is for use with a shopping basket (2) attached to a cycle luggage rack. The horizontal narrow edges of the basket are joined in the middle by the strap which is deformed according to the contents of the basket and attached by open hooks (4). The elastic part is at least 2.0 cm, at most 4.0 cm, and preferably 3.0 cm. wide, at least 0.1 cm, at most 0.4 cm and preferably 0.2 cm thick. Its length is at least 25 cm, at most 50 cm and preferably 40 cm long when untensioned.
