PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To store photographed image data of a clear picture being a picture taken nearer to the time point when a user recognizes a shutter chance without forcing the user's operating burden. SOLUTION: While a shutter button remains unoperated, the camera shows an object picture P varying in short cycles on a display in a first pixel number mode. When a user half pushes the shutter button, the camera outputs picture signals a, b, c, d from a CCD in a second pixel number mode having greater number of pixels than the first pixel number mode, and stores image data A, B, C, D corresponding to the picture signals a, b, c, d in a buffer memory. When the shutter button is fully pushed to output a second signal, the camera stores an image file "C'" corresponding to the image data "C" nearest to the generation time point of the second signal before generating the second signal among the image data stored in the buffer memory.
