An LCD(LCD) device and a driving method are provided to reduce display response time. An LCD device includes liquid crystal elements and a display driving unit(10). Each of the liquid crystal elements is disposed at each of partitioned display areas obtained by dividing one display area, for displaying the partitioned display area. The display driving unit displays the liquid crystal elements with a weighted mean of luminance ratios of the liquid crystal elements, so that display response time of the display area is shorter than a hypothetical display response time obtained when the display area is displayed with a single liquid crystal element. The display driving unit includes a gradation/luminance ratio conversion circuit(1), a combination selecting circuit(2), a frame memory(3), a luminance ratio/gradation conversion(4) and a liquid crystal module(5).
