PURPOSE: A video monitoring apparatus and a method of controlling the same are provided to improve convenience of a user by enabling a PB(Play Back)-through function to be set through minimum operations when a recorded video signal is reproduced. CONSTITUTION: A record reproduction part(300) stores video signal data of a picked-up image and reproduces the stored video signal data. A display part(400) displays the reproduced video signal data. A key operation part(500) requests a control menu for controlling the record reproduction part through a predetermined key operation. The record reproduction part transmits the control menu to the display part in response to the request by the key operation part. The transmitted control menu is displayed by overlap with the video signal data.
