COMPRESSION APPARATUS FOR MOVING PICTURE AND IMAGING APPARATUS EMPLOYING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compressor for allowing hardware and software to share expansion processing of a compressed moving picture and roles by the processes wherein the hardware and the software respectively enhance the advantage and to provide an imaging apparatus employing the compressor.

SOLUTION: A compressor (encoder) for the moving picture includes: a hardware processing section 40 for applying compression processing to the moving picture data by means of hardware; a data storage section 50 for storing the moving picture data processed by the hardware processing section 40; and a software processing section 70 for applying compression processing to the moving picture data by means of software. The hardware processing section 40 includes at least a plurality of processing sections 41 to 46 for executing discrete cosine transform for the moving picture data and quantization processing. The software processing section 70 executes at least processing of encoding the quantized moving picture data into variable length codes.
