PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To help people easily escape while securely shutting off the poisonous gas or smoke produced by a fire that has broken out in an airtight space such as a subway, an underground shopping street and a high-rise building. SOLUTION: A number of screen elements 6a, which are made of a feather-like incombustible fiber and processed to form a band shape, are vertically arranged with part of each overlapping with another one to form a smoke protection screen 6. This smoke protection screen 6 is installed on a smoke coming passage, and provided with a water supply unit 4 on the top. When a fire has broken out, water is dropped from the water supply unit 4 in a shower form to be absorbed in each screen element 6a. Caused by the surface tension of the water, the screen elements 6a closely adhere to each other, forming a smoke protection curtain to block the passage of the smoke. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
