The bread cutter (1) has a circular blade (8) that has a wedge-shaped cutting edge extending far from the rotation axis of the circular blade. The circular blade is secured between an engaging pit (4) and a collecting pit (5) by a fixing device (7). The loaf of bread for cutting is mounted in the engaging pit. The cut slices of bread are collected in the collecting pit. A feed unit (14) is provided in the engaging pit for moving the loaf of bread towards the circular blade. A movable disk support is provided in the collecting pit. An independent claim is included for the circular blade used in the bread cutter.
