PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydroxycarboxamide derivative exhibiting potent and selective cathepsin K inhibitory action and useful for producing a cyclic amide derivative of a potential bone resorption inhibitor useful as a therapeutic agent for bone diseases such as osteoporosis. SOLUTION: The hydroxycarboxamide derivative is represented by the general formula. Wherein, ring A is a 5-7C saturated cyclic alkyl or a 3-6C saturated heterocycle containing a heteroatom, R<SP>1</SP>is a substituted alkyl, a substituted alkenyl, a substituted amino, a substituted alkoxy, a substituted alkylthio, a substituted carbamoyl, a substituted sulfonamide or a substituted amide, R<SP>2</SP>is H, a (substituted) alkyl, a (substituted) aromatic hydrocarbon or a (substituted) heterocycle, and R<SP>5</SP>and R<SP>6</SP>are the same or different and H, a (substituted) alkyl, a (substituted) aromatic hydrocarbon or a (substituted) heterocycle.
