<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To access a user interface of an MFP from a personal computer switch a normal JOB mode and a service JOB mode. <P>SOLUTION: When a general user 2 accesses the user interface 1a of a USB communication channel by using a PC 2b and transmits a PDL to the MFP 1, the MFP 1 interprets the command P of a PJL included in the header part of the PDL and switches a communication interface to a printing JOB mode. Thus, the general user 2 can make the MFP 1 perform a desired printing processing by the PC 2. When a service person 3 accesses the user interface 1a of the USB communication channel by using the PC 3b and transmits the PDL to the MFP 1, the MFP 1 interprets the command S of the PJL included in the PDL and switches the communication interface to an FSMS mode.
