PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a modified PTFE film having a smooth surface which can produce a large amount of a thin crosslinked PTFE film at a low cost without causing strain, cracking, pinholes and the like. SOLUTION: The process for producing the modified polytetrafluoroethylene film comprises irradiating a laminate of a heat-resistant spacer and a polytetrafluoroethylene film in a rolled up state with ionizing radiation in a low oxygen concentration atmosphere at a temperature not lower than the melting point of the polytetrafluoroethylene to crosslink the polytetrafluoroethylene film, and then separating the crosslinked polytetrafluoroethylene film from the heat-resistant spacer.
