PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an actuator for a valve capable of stopping a motor when the overload is applied both in the opening direction and the closing direction with a simple structure. SOLUTION: This actuator for the valve comprises the motor (brake motor) 10 for opening and closing the valve, a power transmitting mechanism 2 having a train of deceleration gears 3 for decelerating the rotation, and a single torque limiter 4 incorporated in the train of deceleration gears 3 for stopping the motor when the rotating torque of the motor 10 indicates an abnormal value, and a control circuit 7 including an opening and closing signal valve discriminating circuit 71 for discriminating the valve in the opening direction and the valve in the closing direction when the rotating torque indicates the abnormal value, and outputting the abnormal signal, motor driving circuits 72a, 72b for stopping the driving of the motor on the basis of the abnormal signal, and a timer circuit 73 for rotating the motor in the reverse direction to return the motor to an original position when the torque limiter 4 is operated.
