[Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXII and XXIV] A mechanical press having a long and absolute dwell at the bottom-ofthe-stroke position of its tool-carrying slide 15 comprises a toggle-joint 20, 21, connecting the slide to the frame, a link 35 connecting the toggle-joint to a crank - actuated driving rod 37, and a guide 60 having an arcuate portion 62 which so guides the end 35a of the link 35 that from the position shown the said end descends to the dotted - line position and returns to the position shown without disturbing the aligned (bottomof-the-stroke) position of the toggle. The guide 60, which comprises also a straight portion 64 which gives a quick approach and quick retraction during the idle periods of the stroke, is formed by spaced plates 66, 67, fastened to the frame. The length of the absolute dwell may be shortened by shortening the rod 37. Means for adjusting the bottom-of-the-stroke position of the slide comprises a wedge 30 interposed between the crown 12 and a block 31 which carries the toggle link 20. The block 31 is resiliently suspended from the crown by bolts 37a and springs 37b. Specification 526,158, [Group XXII], is referred to. |
