PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the cost when consumables of different regulations/types are handled in one printer by using the consumables usefully and efficiently . SOLUTION: When the cover of a printer is not locked, the type information of consumables is acquired from loaded consumables and stored in a nonvolatile memory and then the cover is locked. A carrying operation for identifying the consumables is eliminated by reading out the type information of consumables from the nonvolatile memory so long as the cover is locked regardless of whether power is turned on or off.
