PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of coating a surface of a coated optical fiber partially with metal, the coated optical fiber being formed with no metal coating at a periphery of a resin coating end surface. SOLUTION: In the method of obtaining a metal-coated optical fiber by removing a resin coating at an optical fiber tip part to thereby expose the coated optical fiber and forming a metal coating film on the exposed surface of the coated optical fiber, a fixture for mask in a flare shape is fitted to the optical fiber tip part where the coated optical fiber is exposed, then electroless plating or dry plating in a sputtering method is carried out, and the metal coating is obtained thereupon by an electroplating method when necessary.
