PURPOSE: A hood-raising device for protecting a pedestrian is provided to reduce pedestrian's injured degree by raising the rear end of a hood and absorbing impact if a pedestrian bumps against a traveling vehicle and the pedestrian falls down on a hood. CONSTITUTION: A hood-raising device for protecting a pedestrian comprises a shield plate(10) installed to the lower part of a hood hinge of a vehicle and bolted on a vehicle body and a floor; a support bracket(12) installed to the inner lower end of the shield plate; a gas generator(14) installed to the upper part of the support bracket, to generate gas by a control signal; an impactor(18) moving to the upper side according to gas expansion; a housing(20) receiving the gas generator and the impactor; a hinge mounting plate(28) separably installed to the upper end of the shield plate, to fix the hood hinge; a collision sensor(32) installed to the front of the vehicle, to detect a pedestrian's collision; and an ECU(Electronic Control Unit,30) outputting a gas explosion signal to the gas generator according to a collision detection signal from the collision sensor. A guide bar(16) is formed to the side of the impactor. A pair of stoppers(22) restricting the movement of the guide bar are formed to the side of the shield plate.
