PURPOSE: A remote power control apparatus and method is provided to control the power on/off of a power equipment using a telephone line in a remote place. CONSTITUTION: A ring detector(101), a hook controller(102), a DTMF receiver(103), and a tone generator(104) are connected to a PSTN by an RJ11 connector, a telephone connection part, and they are connected to an MCU(105), a control part. An external equipment power switching part(107) is connected to the output port of the MCU(105). The power switch part of an external equipment, such as a computer, a TV set, etc., is connected to the external equipment power switching part(107). A caller authentication part(106), connected to the ring detector(101), checks a caller's phone number and compares it with a user's phone number in order to judge whether the caller is the user.
