PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a measurement operation during normal network processing using expanded header. SOLUTION: The method of measuring a network operation parameter comprises steps of: selecting a packet passing through a first monitoring point of a network in accordance with a characteristic of the data configuration definition of the data for incorporating additional information into the packet, incorporating predetermined information for measuring at least one network operation parameter into the selected packet in accordance with the data configuration definition of the packet, transferring the packet to a destination in accordance with the address information of the packet, selecting a packet passing through a second monitoring point of the network in accordance with the presence or absence of the predetermined information to observe the predetermined information, and performing measurement of the network operation parameter in accordance with the observed information.
