PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer control device for a record medium which does not require installation of new sensors to obtain a driving amount of a transfer driving means at the time of supplying the record medium also when a throughput at the time of recording is improved, and to provide a transfer control method for a record medium. SOLUTION: In the middle of moving to a printing standby position R of a carriage 2 after paper feeding is started, a DC unit 38 calculates a moving position of the carriage 2 based on pulse signals SG1 and SG2 outputted from a linear encoder 13. When the moving position reaches a set position, the DC unit 38 starts counting a pulse number (measured value) of pulse signals SG3 and SG4 outputted from a rotary encoder 16. The DC unit 38 sequentially increments the count number one by one from 0. When the pulse number exceeds a set value, a PF motor 10 is stopped to finish the intake of a paper 8.
