A building remote control system has radio channel links between a battery fed DECT and infra red remote control unit (3) with loudspeaker and microphone and the central unit (1) which has a holder (2) and contacts (13, 14) for the remote unit and USB (Universal Serial Bus) (11, 17) , bus (8), ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) (9) or GSM (Global System for Mobiles) modem card interfaces to the building network and external networks.
