A method for securing the ground prior to building, i.e. to prevent earth slip after construction, has vertical supports driven into the ground and wedge shaped panels driven into the ground in front of the supports. The ground is progressively excavated in front of the panels and the exposed wall braced by retaining sections dropped behind the supports. This process is repeated until the excavation reaches the required depth, leaving the retaining wedges in the soil to prevent slippage.
