The present invention relates to a preparation for use in animal feed. The preparation comprises sorbic acid and at least one bioavailable beta-glucan and also if appropriate a carrier and a further acid. In addition, the invention relates to the use of the preparation alone in feeds or in a mixture with other feed additives for improving the hygiene state of the feed and for growth promotion in farm animal rearing.
