[Also in Division G3] A swivel bending machine comprises a pivotal bending beam 4 and means for clamping a workpiece during a bending operation the clamping means comprising a beam 3 fixed relative to the pivot axis of the bending beam and a beam 6 movable by drive means relative to the fixed beam to provide an opening of variable width for the insertion of a workpiece 19, and control means selectable in accordance with a programme, the control means acting upon the drive means to limit the opening to a width presettable for each step in the programme. A horizontally displaceable automatically settable stop 7 is arranged between the beams 3 and 6. After a first bending operation on the workpiece the upper beam 6 is raised to accommodate the height of the folded edge prior to the next bending operation. In a programme controlled swivel bending machine this operation is effected by a pre-settable programme control member 10 (Fig. 3) comprising guide rods 12 carrying adjustable switching cams 13 associated with switches 14. A frame 11 supporting the guide rods moves with the upper beam 6 and the cams are so pre-set on the guide rods that they suit the widths of opening of the upper beam which are required for each working phase. Pre-set interchangeable frames may be used. |
