摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recover a particulate filter from poisoning, in an exhaust emission control method and an exhaust emission control device adopting a new method. SOLUTION: A particulate filter 22 is arranged in an engine exhaust passage. The discharge amount of fine particles per unit time to be discharged from a combustion chamber 5 is made smaller than the oxidizable and removable amount of fine particles per unit time oxidizable and removal, without generating luminous flames on the particulate filter 22, and thus, the fine particles in exhaust gas are oxidized and removed without generating luminous flames, when they flow into the particulate filter 22. When the particulate filter is to be recovered from poisoning and also when the discharge amount of fine particles is larger than the oxidizable and removable amount of fine particulates, the discharge amount of fine particles is made not more than the oxidizable and amount removable of fine particles, and the particulate filter is recovered from poisoning.
