<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain degradation of an initial discharge capacity to a minimum and effectively restrain lowering of capacity accompanied by progress of charge/ discharge cycle at a high temperature. <P>SOLUTION: The positive electrode active material for the lithium secondary battery is composed of an active material main body consisting of spinel-type lithium-manganese complex oxide with a part of Mn substituted by an element M, Li<SB>(1+x)</SB>Mn<SB>(2-x-y)</SB>M<SB>y</SB>O<SB>4</SB>and a coating layer applied on at least a part of the surface of the active material main body, and the coating layer is either a lithium compound, a lithium manganese complex oxide or a manganese compound with a Mn of 2 to 4 valences obtained from a reduction treatment of the active material main body. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
