PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas barrier composition having a high barrier property against oxygen gas even under a high humidity condition and to provide a gas barrier film and laminate using this composition. SOLUTION: The gas barrier composition is prepared which contains at least one kind compound selected from a formyl group-containing polymer or a formyl group-containing saccharide. The above formyl group-containing compound may contain furthermore a hydroxy group. This formyl group- containing compound may be a polysaccharide (such as a water-soluble polysaccharide), for example an oxidized polysaccharide. The above composition may contain an acidic catalyst. The above composition with a high barrier property against oxygen gas may be, for example, a crosslinkable composition comprising a formyl group- and a hydroxy group-containing, water-soluble polysaccharide and an acidic catalyst. The above composition can form a gas barrier layer which has the oxygen permeability under a relative humidity of 70% or more of 30 mL/m<SP>2</SP>/day/atm or less in terms of a coated weight of 1.5 g/m<SP>2</SP>.
