<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide wear-resistant ceramics, its manufacturing process and a surface modification process of ceramics. <P>SOLUTION: A ceramic sintered body wherein the ceramic particles composing the sintered body are oriented in specific directions, is surface modified by implanting ions into its surface to manufacture a ceramic sliding material having a high hardness and wear resistance (comparative wear quantity in the order of 10<SP>-10</SP>mm<SP>2</SP>/N, while the normal level is 10<SP>-8</SP>mm<SP>2</SP>/N) and a low coefficient of friction of ≤0.3, while the normal level is 0.8-1.0, even under dry friction without lubrication. This realizes structural ceramics having a strength, toughness, wear resistance and a low coefficient of friction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
