The surgical staple (1) consists of two branches (1a, 1b) with a connecting portion (1c) that allows the branches to be bent towards one another and held in that position. The tips of the branches are shaped to form hooks (1a1, 1b1) that engage with the prosthesis and the adjoining section of the artery, and the connecting portion is made from two straight segments (1c1. 1c2) and a curved segment (1c3). The two branches of each staple are of unequal lengths and set at an angle to the staple's axis of symmetry, while their tips are chamfered.
