PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To establish a surface evaluation method, to prevent fog which resulting from a cleaner-less design, to establish a highly-durable cleaner-less process, to save energy and so on, in a cleaner-less electrophotographic method employing injection electrification. SOLUTION: In a method for evaluating a frictional electrification potential difference by contact between a contact electrifying member 103 and a photoreceptor 102, the contact electrifying member 103 and the photoreceptor 102 are driven in such a manner that there is a relative velocity difference. The contact electrifying member 103 is controlled so as to have a specific potential. The surface potential of the photoreceptor is measured on the downstream side of the area of its contact with the electrifying member in the direction in which the photoreceptor is driven. A frictional electrification potential difference between the contact electrifying member and the photoreceptor surface is obtained.
