A ferrule has a cylindrical body for the ferrule which is constructed by ceramic and has an optical fiber insertion hole for inserting an optical fiber thereinto and also has an optical buffered fiber insertion hole communicated with the optical fiber insertion hole and inserting and holding an optical buffered fiber formed by coating the optical fiber; and a flange member fixed to only the outer circumferential face of the cylindrical body for the ferrule. Thus, the ferrule is constructed by the cylindrical body for the ferrule and the flange member fixed to only the outer circumferential face of the cylindrical body for the ferrule. Accordingly, the flange member can be made light in weight and manufacture cost can be reduced.
